Geek House Guide: Vol 2, Ish 12

Ah, yes, Christmas time! I realize I haven't posted the guides for issues 10 and 11, but I figured this one needed to go out to have some timeliness on it. Get to it!

Decorations:

And, hey! Brian's famous!(-ish) He got on How Did This Get Made after he wrote in about discrepancies over Lawnmower Man and the book of Job. Go listen!

Speaking of Lawnmower Man, here's some art from the comic adaptation of Stephen King's original story that has nothing at all in common with the movie that supposedly adapted it:

Recommendations:

From this year's Batman Annual #1 by Jeff King and David Finch:

Go here for the Nerd of God Cast.

New Geek House Draft Challenge is up! X-Men love!

And Spider-Man is the biggest merch earner of all super-heroes, by far.

Movies!

A Christmas Story (Casey's favorite! And one of the best movies ever, period!)

Oh, and here's Roger Ebert's Great Movies review of A Christmas Story, thus proving anyone who dislikes this amazing, iconic movie is heretoforever a gigantic SCROOGE!

It's A Wonderful Life:

(Also one of Ebert's Great Movies, hence being in good company with A Christmas Story)

How the Grinch Stole Christmas (original, animated, and far superior version):

How the Grinch Stole Christmas (live action, not so nice version)(and, hey! I found just the table cloth scene!):

Brian wrote a great article talking about the differences in how the original Grinch cartoon presents its themes versus how the live action movie treats the themes.

Mickey's Christmas Carol:

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (lost scene):

Miracle On 34th Street (original and BLACK AND WHITE):

Muppet Christmas Carol (bloopers and outtakes):

Food!

These recipes are from allrecipes.com and Alton Brown on food.com respectively.

Muddy Buddies (called Reindeer Poop by Casey because that's more fun):
9 cups Chex cereal (your choice in type or types)
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup peanut butter
1/4 cup butter or margarine
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 cups powder sugar

Makes '18 servings' (or 1 me-sized serving)

1. Into large bowl, measure cereal; set aside.
2. In 1-quart microwaveable bowl, microwave chocolate chips, peanut butter and butter uncovered on High 1 minute; stir. Microwave about 30 seconds longer or until mixture can be stirred smooth. Stir in vanilla. Pour mixture over cereal, stirring until evenly coated. Pour into 2-gallon resealable food-storage plastic bag.
3. Add powdered sugar. Seal bag; shake until well coated. Spread on waxed paper to cool. Store in airtight container in refrigerator.

White Trash:
3 1/2 cups Cheerios
3 cups Rice Chex
3 cups Corn Chex
16 oz plain M&Ms
2 1/2 cups mixed salted nuts
2 cups small pretzels
2 packages white chocolate chips

Makes '25 servings' (or 1 Brian-sized serving)

1. Dump the cereals, M&Ms, nuts & pretzels in a large bowl.
2. Melt the white chocolate in the microwave or in a double boiler. Melt very slowly, stirring occasionally, being careful not to burn the chocolate.
3. Dump melted chocolate over the rest of the ingredients and fold over and over until you have well-coated hunks and chunks.
4. Spread the whole mess out on parchment paper and set in a cool place until it sets up, then break it into pieces.
5. Store in zip-top bags or air-tight containers.

Now at the end, one of my favorite late night Christmas cartoons called Peace On Earth:
